# Margen

> Margen is a handwriting notes app for ONYX Boox tablets (Android). You write with the pen as usual; every page is transcribed in the background by a vision model, with a short title and a one-line summary, and your handwritten notes become searchable and readable from Claude and ChatGPT through a read-only connector (MCP). Notion is next.

- Early access is a Google Play closed test for Boox owners (Android 10 or later) Free: up to 100 new notes a month, and an account opened now stays free (the free plan is not taken away or shrunk later). Pro: $49 a year, unlimited notes (card payment not open yet: write to hello@getmargen.app).
- A page counts as one note the first time it is transcribed with something written on it. Blank pages are free; editing a page later does not use another note (up to 100 re-transcriptions a month).
- Margen is its own notes app, and it imports notebooks written in Boox Notes (Settings → Boox Notes): their pages come in as read-only pages and are transcribed; each page with writing counts as one new note.
- Compared with Boox Notes: Boox Notes converts handwriting on demand and has more page tools (templates, layers, PDF annotation) and works fully offline; Margen transcribes every page automatically with a vision model, writes a title and summary, and makes the notes readable from Claude and ChatGPT, but needs a cloud copy and has no on-tablet search yet.
- Common uses from early users: study notes turned into flashcards by Claude, meeting notes, journals, ideas and plans.
- Claude: Margen is in Claude's connector directory. In Claude on the web or desktop, open Customize → Connectors → Browse connectors, find Margen and click Connect (the directory can also be browsed from a chat with the + button); sign in with the email used in the app, type the 6-digit code, then Allow. It then works in the Claude mobile apps. Works on every Claude plan, including Free. It can also be added as a custom connector at https://connector.getmargen.app/mcp (Free users are limited to one custom connector). On Team and Enterprise, an Owner must enable connectors for the organization first. In ChatGPT: paid plans, on the web, Settings → Apps → Advanced → developer mode, add the same address. Read-only; can be disconnected at any time. Gemini and Microsoft 365 Copilot are not supported yet (not tested).
- There is no search box or text export on the tablet yet: the text is searched and read through Claude or ChatGPT.
- Notes are not used to train models; pages are transcribed only by model providers that don't store or train on them.
