Turn Boox handwriting into text
Margen converts each handwritten page on your Boox into text automatically, in the background, as soon as you close the note. There is nothing to select, export or convert, and the text stays attached to the page: if you edit the page, the text follows.
How the transcription works
Instead of recognizing letters one stroke at a time, Margen sends an image of the page to a vision model, which reads it the way a person would. That makes the difference on real handwriting: quick notes, abbreviations, lists, arrows and words squeezed into the margin. Like a person, it can still misread a word, which is why the page image stays next to the text. For every page you get:
- the text of the page, in reading order;
- a short title, written from what the page is about;
- a one-line summary, shown under the title in your library and used by search.
The page image is kept next to the text, so when a diagram or a layout matters, Claude can look at the page itself instead of guessing from the text.
Where the text goes
The text lives in Claude or ChatGPT, which you connect once: ask for a page's text, search it, or have it summarized. There is no text export on the tablet yet. Notion is next.
What it costs
A page counts as one note the first time it is transcribed with something written on it. Blank pages are free, and editing a page later does not use another note (up to 100 re-transcriptions a month). Early access starts with 100 free notes; see pricing for after.
Privacy
We only use model providers that don't store or train on your pages. You can delete a page, or your whole account and everything stored with it, from the app. The details are in the app privacy policy.

Most languages written in the Latin alphabet, including pages that mix them. If yours doesn't come out right, tell us at hello@getmargen.app.
Can I convert notes I wrote in Boox Notes?
Not with Margen: it transcribes the pages you write in Margen. Boox Notes can convert a selection to text itself (lasso, then AI recognition). Margen is for when you want every page converted automatically and kept searchable.
