Boox + Notion

How do I get my handwritten meeting notes into Notion as tasks?

Updated

Short answer: write the meeting by hand on your Boox, then ask Claude to put the action items into your Notion Tasks database. Claude reads your notes through Margen and writes into Notion through Notion's own connector.

You close the notebook after a meeting, and the follow-ups stay on the page. This guide adds the Boox to a Notion system with as little setup as possible: one database, one habit, one prompt.

Why handwritten follow-ups go nowhere

Writing by hand keeps you in the meeting, and in some meetings it's the only option: recording isn't allowed. But the notes then sit in the notes app. The to-dos that reach your task list are the ones you remember to type, usually not all of them.

1. A small Notion setup

You don't need a full project-management system. One database is enough to start:

If you already have a tasks database, use it as it is and tell Claude its name.

2. Capture on the Boox

3. Connect Margen and Notion to Claude

  1. Write in Margen on your Boox. Pages are transcribed in the background when the tablet is online.
  2. In Claude, add Margen (setup steps) and Notion, both from Claude's connector directory.
  3. Margen's connector is read-only: Claude can read your notes but can't change them. What Claude writes in Notion goes through the permissions you gave Notion's connector.

4. The prompt after a meeting

Copy this once, change the names, and reuse it:

"Read my note from today's budget review. Lines starting with → are actions. Add each one to my Notion database Tasks: the task starting with a verb, Status To do, the due date if I wrote one, Project Work. Then list what you added, and anything that looked like a task but that you skipped."

Asking for what it skipped matters: it's how you catch an action you wrote in the margin without your usual mark.

5. A weekly review

"Read my notes from this week. Which actions did I write that aren't in my Notion Tasks database yet? Add them, then show me the open tasks by project."

This catches the meetings you forgot to process. More prompts for a weekly review are in Summarize a week of handwritten meeting notes.

Diagrams and sketches

If a page has a diagram, ask Claude to look at the page image and redraw it as a Mermaid diagram in the meeting's Notion page. Notion renders Mermaid code blocks as diagrams. Check the result against your sketch: arrows and labels are where it most often slips.

What's automatic today, and what isn't

Not using Notion? The capture and the prompts are the same for any task app. If Claude can't reach your app, ask for a list and paste it (how, for Todoist, Things and others).

Questions

Can my Boox meeting notes go into Notion automatically?

Not on their own yet. Today you ask the assistant after the meeting, in one sentence. A direct sync from Margen to Notion is the next destination we're building.

Do I need Claude, or does ChatGPT work too?

Both can read your handwritten notes through Margen. This guide uses Claude because Claude can also write into Notion through Notion's connector. With ChatGPT, ask for the task list and paste it into Notion.

Do I have to record the meeting?

No. Everything starts from what you wrote by hand on the Boox, which also works where recording isn't allowed.

Does this work with ClickUp, Todoist or another task app?

The capture and the prompt are the same. If the assistant can reach your task app through a connector, ask it to add the tasks there; otherwise ask for a list and paste it.
